Free Computer Cleanup Software
One of the great things about the popularity of the internet and the wide-spread usage of Windows operating systems is that there is plenty of free computer cleanup software available today. Pick your flavor or pick your poison, we’ve listed our favorite computer cleanup programs in no particular order.
Defraggler ~ A stand-alone, one-at-a-time file defragmentation tool (also will defragment the entire hard drive) that works with all flavors of Windows since 2000; will defragment NTFS and FAT32 as well as 64 bit systems.
CCleaner ~ A free computer cleaning utility that removes temporary internet files, cache files, recent files and clears your Windows recycle bin. CCleaner also boasts a built-in registry cleaner, though we prefer the one provided by RegCure.
nCleaner ~ This software kind of mimics CCleaner (above), but it does have a few more options (such as a computer memory monitor) that makes it all-the-more enticing.
AVG Antivirus ~ A comprehensive virus, spyware and adware scanner that allows computer users a high level of assurance that their PCs remain free of malicious bugs.
Lavasoft Ad-Aware ~ Operates on the same premise as AVG antivirus, though it does not offer the same types of coverage.
SpyBot Search and Destroy ~ A favorite of self-professed computer geeks and intermediate techies alike, SpyBot Search and Destroy is yet another effective (and free) anti-malware software for Windows computer users.
Heidi Eraser ~ If you plan on selling your hard drive or you want to keep your deleted files from the prying eyes of users with data recovery software, the Heidi Eraser is the tool to use. You can securely wipe clean an entire hard drive or even just securely delete unused disk space.
Now, this list is hardly exhaustive, but it does offer a wide variety of various computer cleanup tools – all free, we might add.
